Abstract

In this article the development and realization of a 8 kW battery charger with Power Factor Correction (PFC) is described. The converter consists of two parts: The first part is an AC/DC converter based on a “VIENNA” topology with a controlled output voltage of 700V and midpoint connection [1],[2]. The second part consists of two DC/DC converters with galvanic isolation and parallel outputs. The output current and voltage can be controlled in the ranges 0-28A and 0-280V.

High-voltage direct current

A high-voltage direct current (HVDC) electric power transmission system (also called a power superhighway or an electrical superhighway) uses direct current (DC) for electric power transmission, in contrast with the more common alternating current (AC) transmission systems. Most HVDC links use voltages between 100 kV and 800 kV. However, a 1,100 kV link in China was completed in 2019 over a distance of with a power capacity of 12 GW.
