Annihilating polynomials of excellent quadratic forms

Abstract

If phi is an excellent form, then it is possible to use the dimensions of the higher complements of phi to obtain an annihilating polynomial of phi of low degree. The main result of this paper is the construction of such a polynomial with the help of methods from the theory of generic splitting of quadratic forms.

Quadratic form

In mathematics, a quadratic form is a polynomial with terms all of degree two ("form" is another name for a homogeneous polynomial). For example, is a quadratic form in the variables x and y. The coefficients usually belong to a fixed field K, such as the real or complex numbers, and one speaks of a quadratic form over K.
