Jérôme BaudryJérôme Baudry is a historian of science and technology. Since 2019, he is a tenure-track assistant professor at EPFL, where he heads the Laboratory for the History of Science and Technology (LHST) and manages the UNIL-EPFL Collection of Scientific Instruments. He studied history, mathematics, sociology and economics in Paris, before receiving a PhD in the history of science at Harvard University. His research interests include the history of intellectual property, the role of the visual in science and technology, and the history and sociology of public participation in science. He is particularly interested in developing and experimenting with new tools and methods — especially digital and computational — for historical research.

Luca Giovanni PattaroniSuite à une formation en Relations Internationales (Institut des Hautes Etudes Internationales, Genève) et un DEA en sciences sociales (Ecole Normale Supérieure de Paris/Ulm), Luca Pattaroni a soutenu une thèse de sociologie en cotutelle (Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, Paris/ Université de Genève) sous la direction de Laurent Thévenot (EHESS) et Jean Kellerhals (Université de Genève). Après avoir occupé durant 5 ans un poste d'assistant à la Faculté de Droit (Université de Genève), il a été visiting scholar à lUniversité de Columbia (New York). Il travaille désormais au Laboratoire de Sociologie Urbaine (EPFL) et est associé au Groupe de Sociologie Politique et Morale de l'Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (GSPM/EHESS). En 2011, il a été Professeur invité à l'Université Fédérale de Fluminense (Brésil). Ses recherches et publications portent sur les politiques urbaines et culturelles, l’habitat, les mouvements sociaux, les rythmes urbains et les grandes manifestation, l’évolution des modes de vie ainsi que, plus largement les enjeux du commun dans les villes contemporaines. Dominique Foray1 - Current occupations and activities I am Full Professor at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and hold the Chair of Economics and Management of Innovation (CEMI). I am a member of the Swiss Council for Science (SWR); chairman of the Advisory Board of the Swiss Economic Research Institute (KOF); and a foreign member of the Center of Capitalism and Society (Columbia University, New York). From 2007 to 2015, I served as a member of the Swiss National Research Council (Division IV - Large Scale Programs) From 2013 to 2016, I was a member of the Expert Commission for Research and Innovation of Germany (E-FI) and a member of the Expert Group for the National Report on Research and Innovation (SBFI, Switzerland). From 2008 to 2011, I served as chairman of the expert group Knowledge for Growth; a group of prominent economists created to advise Commissioner J. Potocnik (European Commission, DG research). This is during this service as member of this Group that I developed the concept of smart specialisation (together with P.A.David and B.Hall) that is now a key policy mechanism of the EU (cohesion policy). My expertise includes the economics of innovation and knowledge and the economic policy implications of the new knowledge-based economy. I have presented many opening speeches and key note address in academic and policy conferences on these topics. I have written numerous academic papers as well as two books and have edited several books and special issues in these fields. Sila KaratasSıla Karataş (1987, Ankara) was graduated as architect and awarded Master’s degree with the thesis “Building Marshall Plan in Turkey: The Formation of Workers’ Housing Question, 1946-1962” at the Middle East Technical University. In her thesis, she analyzed the formation of postwar workers’ housing discourse concerning the policy, planning and architecture of workers’ housing cooperatives within the framework of the ideological and spatial programming of the Marshall Plan and Americanization in Turkey. This research received Honourable Mention in 'Young Social Scientists Awards' of the Turkish Social Sciences Association. She worked as assistant and lecturer in Turkey between 2012-2019; took part in architectural and urban design studios as tutor and reviewer, gave Case Studies in Social Housing and Community Planning among other courses. Since September 2019, she is a PhD student and doctoral assistant at EPFL. Her PhD research concerns postwar workers’ housing programs of the Mediterranean countries participated in the Marshall Plan (France, Italy, Greece, Turkey), and is a comparative analysis of local models in relation to the transnational activity by the United States and multilateral organizations on postwar development, labour affairs and housing. This research is awarded a Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship for PhD and being funded by the Swiss Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Scholars and Artists (FCS).
Vincent KaufmannVincent Kaufmann is associate professor of urban sociology and mobility at Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). Since 2011, he is also scientific director of the Mobile Lives Forum in Paris. After a master degree in sociology (Universtiy of Geneva) he did his Ph.D. at EPFL on rationalities underlying transport modal practices. Vincent Kaufmann has been invited lecturer at Lancaster University (2000-2001), Ecole des Ponts et Chaussées, Paris (2001-2002), Laval University, Québec (2008) Nimegen University (2010), Université de Toulouse Le Mirail (2011), Université Catholique de Louvain (2004-2018) and Tongji University in Shanghai (2018). There fields of research are: motility, mobility and urban life styles, links between social and spatial mobility, public policies of land planning and transportation. He recently published “Mobilité et libre circulation en Europe” (with Ander Audikana) Economica (2017).
Vitor Pessoa ColomboVitor grew up in São Paulo (Brazil) and studied architecture in Switzerland (B.Sc. École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, M.Sc. Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio). Since 2016, he has conducted research on urbanization processes in cities of the global South. He has focused his research on "citizen mapping" methods that provide spatial information useful to support the improvement of vulnerable human settlements in cities marked by socio-spatial segregation. Now he conducts a PhD project at EPFL's CEAT unit to investigate how different urban morphologies relate to the occurence of diarrhoeal diseases in the context of rapid and largely informal urbanization processes.
Akuto Akpedze KonouAkuto Akpedze KONOU AKA Rolande est une jeune femme du Togo (Afrique de l'Ouest), architecte et urbaniste assermentée, communicatrice, auteur et motivatrice de talent. Elle est passionnée par la recherche en matière de développement durable, d'entrepreneuriat et de technologies vertes. Akuto est actuellement doctorante au laboratoire CEAT/EPFL et travaille sur un volet de recherche du projet Sinergia du FNS "Contributions africaines à la santé mondiale": "Circulation des connaissances et des innovations" (https://globalhealthafrica.ch/). Le projet de recherche étudie les connaissances et les pratiques liées à l'amélioration de la santé et des soins de santé qui ont été développées ou conçues en Afrique. Le projet est mené par une équipe pluridisciplinaire de l'EPFL, de l'Université de Bâle et du Swiss TPH. Fulbright et DKG World Fellow, Akuto a étudié au département de planification communautaire et régionale (College of Design) de l'Université d'État de l'Iowa aux États-Unis en tant qu'assistante de recherche, ainsi qu'après un master en architecture et en urbanisme à l'EAMAU.Akpedze pratique son métier depuis 7 ans, en intégrant au mieux les principes de l'architecture et de l'urbanisme durables. Après son master à l'EAMAU, GIGA, le groupe Eric DUVAL, l'OIF, GIZ, R-SUD, le gouvernement togolais de la prospective et de l'évaluation des politiques publiques, UN-Habitat, le PNUD, le groupe GFA et la Banque mondiale ont renforcé ses compétences. Elle s'engage à travers son domaine à contribuer à la protection de la planète et à la bonne santé de ses habitants. Akpedze soutient que tout être vivant a droit à un environnement sain et décent, et son objectif est d'utiliser l'architecture sociale et l'aménagement durable du territoire pour soutenir les communautés. Akpedze est active au sein d'associations professionnelles telles que l'ONAT, l'OSM, Minodoo, YALI Allumni, TDIF Think Tank et a participé de manière dynamique à plusieurs ateliers internationaux, concours, expositions, puis conférences et formations à l'entrepreneuriat ou au leadership, et sur les questions de villes intelligentes. Pascal FuaPascal Fua received an engineering degree from Ecole Polytechnique, Paris, in 1984 and the Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the University of Orsay in 1989. He then worked at SRI International and INRIA Sophia-Antipolis as a Computer Scientist. He joined EPFL in 1996 where he is now a Professor in the School of Computer and Communication Science and heads the Computer Vision Laboratory. His research interests include shape modeling and motion recovery from images, analysis of microscopy images, and Augmented Reality. His research interests include shape modeling and motion recovery from images, analysis of microscopy images, and machine learning. He has (co)authored over 300 publications in refereed journals and conferences. He is an IEEE Fellow and has been an Associate Editor of IEEE journal Transactions for Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence. He often serves as program committee member, area chair, and program chair of major vision conferences and has cofounded three spinoff companies (Pix4D, PlayfulVision, and NeuralConcept).
Giorgio MargaritondoDe nationalité américaine et suisse, Giorgio Margaritondo est né à Rome (Italie) en 1946. Il a reçu la Laurea cum laude en physique de l'Université de Rome en 1969. De 1969 à 1978, il a travaillé pour le Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR), à Rome, à Frascati et, pendant la période 1975-1977, chez Bell Laboratories aux Etats-Unis. De 1978 à 1990, il est professeur de physique à l'Université du Wisconsin, à Madison (Etats-Unis); en 1984, il est nommé vice-directeur au Centre de rayonnement synchrotron de la même université. En 1990, il est engagé à l'EPFL comme professeur ordinaire et dirige l'Institut de physique appliquée au Département de physique. Il a été également membre honoraire du corps professoral de l'Université Vanderbilt à Nashville. En 2001 il a été nommé doyen de la Faculté des sciences de base de l'EPFL; en 2004, il a été nommé Vice-président pour les affaires académiques.; en 2010 et jusqu'à sa retraite de l'EPFL en 2016 il est devenu Doyen de la formation continue. A côté de ses cours de physique générale, son activité de recherche porte sur la physique des semiconducteurs et des supraconducteurs (états électroniques, surfaces, interfaces) et des systèmes biologiques; ses principales méthodes expérimentales sont la spectroscopie et la spectromicroscopie électroniques, l'imagerie aux rayons x et la microscopie SNOM, y compris les expériences avec le rayonnement synchrotron et le laser à électrons libres. Auteur d'environ 700 articles scientifiques et de 9 livres, il a aussi été responsable de 1995 à 1998 des programmes scientifiques du Synchrotron ELETTRA à Trieste. Depuis 1997, il a été le coordinateur de la table ronde de la Commission européenne pour le rayonnement synchrotron, et président du conseil de la "Integrated Initiative" de la Commission européenne pour les synchrotrons et les lasers à électrons libres (IA-SFS, ensuite ELISA), le plus grand réseau au monde de laboratoires dans ce domaine. En 2011-2015, il a été Editor-in-Chief du Journal of Physics D (Applied Physics). A présent, il est vice-président du conseil de l'Università della Svizzera Italiana (USI) et président du Scientific and Technological Committee de l'Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT).
