Sevrage tabagique

vignette|Cigarette brisée. Le sevrage tabagique est l'arrêt de la consommation de tabac, dans le but de s'affranchir de la dépendance induite. Bien que le sevrage du tabac puisse être spontané, il existe plusieurs aides, essentiellement destinées à arrêter de fumer. Un tel sevrage reste souvent difficile, variable selon le degré de dépendance et de motivation. Le sevrage tabagique permet de réduire les effets du tabac sur la santé. L'évaluation de la dépendance est un préalable souvent nécessaire avant d'entreprendre un arrêt de la consommation de tabac.

Tobacco smoking

Tobacco smoking is the practice of burning tobacco and ingesting the resulting smoke. The smoke may be inhaled, as is done with cigarettes, or simply released from the mouth, as is generally done with pipes and cigars. The practice is believed to have begun as early as 5000–3000 BC in Mesoamerica and South America. Tobacco was introduced to Eurasia in the late 17th century by European colonists, where it followed common trade routes.
