Résumé

The present invention relates to a method for purging ex vivo isolated organs or isolated cells from latent human cytomegalovirus (HCMV). The invention further relates to a compound for use in a method for treating HCMV infection.

Human betaherpesvirus 5

Human betaherpesvirus 5, also called human cytomegalovirus (HCMV), is species of virus in the genus Cytomegalovirus, which in turn is a member of the viral family known as Herpesviridae or herpesviruses. It is also commonly called CMV. Within Herpesviridae, HCMV belongs to the Betaherpesvirinae subfamily, which also includes cytomegaloviruses from other mammals. CMV is a double-stranded DNA virus. Although they may be found throughout the body, HCMV infections are frequently associated with the salivary glands.

Cytomégalovirus

Le cytomégalovirus, Cytomegalovirus, (ou CMV) est un genre de virus responsable d'infections passant le plus souvent inaperçues. Son caractère pathogène survient surtout chez des patients dont les défenses immunitaires ont été affaiblies, tels ceux traités par immuno-suppresseurs, atteints par le sida, et les fœtus. Le CMV rend aussi vulnérables les patients déjà atteints d'une maladie systémique, cette dernière pouvant provoquer une immunodépression. Une infection à cytomégalovirus chez la femme enceinte peut provoquer des lésions chez le fœtus.

Lymphocyte T

Les lymphocytes T, ou cellules T, sont une catégorie de leucocytes qui jouent un grand rôle dans la réponse immunitaire adaptative. « T » est l'abréviation de thymus, l'organe dans lequel leur développement s'achève. Ils sont responsables de l'immunité cellulaire : les cellules infectées par un virus par exemple, ou les cellules cancéreuses reconnues comme étrangères à l'organisme (c'est-à-dire distinctes des cellules que les lymphocytes T ont appris à tolérer lors de leur maturation) sont détruites par un mécanisme complexe.
