Résumé

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) of superficial bladder cancer may cause damages to the normal surrounding bladder wall. Prevention of these is important for bladder healing. We studied the influence of photosensitizer concentration, irradiation parameters, and production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) on the photodynamically induced damage in the porcine urothelium invitro. The aim was to determine the threshold conditions for the cell survival.

Cancer de la vessie

La paroi interne de la vessie est tapissée de cellules transitionnelles qui sont à l'origine de la plupart des cancers de la vessie. L'évolution et la prise en charge dépend beaucoup du caractère invasif de la tumeur. On distingue le cancer superficiel de la vessie du cancer invasif (tumeur infiltrante). Si le cancer superficiel reste de bon pronostic, le cancer invasif de la vessie est beaucoup plus grave et nécessite des traitements agressifs. Il s'agit de l'un des dix plus fréquents cancers avec un peu plus de 500 000 cas annuels de par le monde.

Thérapie photodynamique

La thérapie photodynamique (ou photothérapie dynamique ; photochimiothérapie ; en photodynamic therapy, abrégée en PDT), est une technique de traitement médical local et sélectif visant à détruire des tissus pathologiques, ou certains microbes, grâce à l'utilisation de substances chimiques photosensibilisantes devenant cytotoxiques une fois activés par de une lumière (pour une gamme réduite de longueurs d'onde) ou dans certains cas par des rayons X (qui peuvent pénétrer en profondeur dans l'organisme).

Bladder stone

A bladder stone is a stone found in the urinary bladder. Bladder stones are small mineral deposits that can form in the bladder. In most cases bladder stones develop when the urine becomes very concentrated or when one is dehydrated. This allows for minerals, such as calcium or magnesium salts, to crystallize and form stones. Bladder stones vary in number, size and consistency. In some cases bladder stones do not cause any symptoms and are discovered as an incidental finding on a plain radiograph.
