The Terahertz (THz) frequency domain lies between the realms of microwave and optics, with frequencies conventionally spanning the 0.1-10 THz spectral range [1]. Many commercially-available THz systems routinely exploits optical down/up conversion mechanisms to generate/detect THz signals, finding applications in Time-Domain Spectroscopy (TDS), imaging and telecommunications [2]. However, most of such systems still largely rely on bulky free-space approaches, which are difficult to scale down to portable footprints, thus restricting their use mainly in large facilities. More recently, new classes of photonic integrated circuits have been proposed for both generation and detection of THz pulses via nonlinear interaction with guided optical pulsed beams [3]–[5].
