High Speed Flow Visualisation of an Impinging Jet on a Pelton Turbine Bucket

Résumé

This paper deals with flow investigations using endoscopes in a single-injector reduced scale Pelton turbine performed with a CMOS high-speed camera. Both onboard and external visualizations techniques of the flow in a bucket are presented. The flow observations evidence the unsteadiness of the successive steps of jet/bucket interaction, free surface flow development and evolution throughout the bucket duty cycle.

Turbine Pelton

Une turbine Pelton est un type de turbine hydraulique à augets utilisée dans les centrales hydroélectriques. Elle a été inventée en 1879 par Lester Allan Pelton. Cette turbine est du type « à action » car l’énergie cinétique de l’eau s'écoulant en sortie de la conduite forcée est transmise à la turbine (couple et vitesse angulaire) par l'intermédiaire d’un jet d'eau qui agit directement sur les augets de la roue.

Turbine hydraulique

Une turbine hydraulique est une machine tournante qui produit une énergie mécanique à partir d'eau en mouvement (cours d'eau ou marée) ou potentiellement en mouvement (barrage). Elle constitue le composant essentiel des centrales hydroélectriques destinées à produire de l'électricité à partir d'un flux d'eau. Active-pixel sensor

An active-pixel sensor (APS) is an , which was invented by Peter J.W. Noble in 1968, where each pixel sensor unit cell has a photodetector (typically a pinned photodiode) and one or more active transistors. In a metal–oxide–semiconductor (MOS) active-pixel sensor, MOS field-effect transistors (MOSFETs) are used as amplifiers. There are different types of APS, including the early NMOS APS and the now much more common complementary MOS (CMOS) APS, also known as the CMOS sensor.
