On the naturality of the exterior differential

Résumé

We give sufficient conditions for the naturallity of the exterior differential under Sobolev mappings. In other words we study the validity of the equation $d\, f^* \alpha = f^*\; d\alpha$ for a smooth form $\alpha$ and a Sobolev map $f$ .

Forme différentielle

En géométrie différentielle, une forme différentielle est la donnée d'un champ d'applications multilinéaires alternées sur les espaces tangents d'une variété différentielle possédant une certaine régularité. Le degré des formes différentielles désigne le degré des applications multilinéaires. La différentielle d'une fonction numérique peut être regardée comme un champ de formes linéaires : c'est le premier exemple de formes différentielles.

Validity (statistics)

Validity is the main extent to which a concept, conclusion or measurement is well-founded and likely corresponds accurately to the real world. The word "valid" is derived from the Latin validus, meaning strong. The validity of a measurement tool (for example, a test in education) is the degree to which the tool measures what it claims to measure. Validity is based on the strength of a collection of different types of evidence (e.g. face validity, construct validity, etc.) described in greater detail below.

Dérivée extérieure

En mathématiques, la dérivée extérieure, opérateur de la topologie différentielle et de la géométrie différentielle, étend le concept de la différentielle d'une fonction aux formes différentielles de degré quelconque. Elle permet de définir les formes différentielles fermées et exactes. Elle est importante dans la théorie de l'intégration sur les variétés, et elle est la différentielle employée pour définir la cohomologie de De Rham et celle d'Alexander-Spanier. Sa forme actuelle fut inventée par Élie Cartan.
