Kerr Comb-based Transfer Oscillator for Ultralow Noise Photonic Microwave Synthesis

Résumé

We perform optical frequency division of an ultra-stable laser by using a crystalline-based Kerr frequency comb as a transfer oscillator. We demonstrate absolute phase noise levels of -110 dBc/Hz at 200-Hz offset from a 14 GHz carrier. (C) 2019 The Author(s)

Multiplexage en longueur d'onde

Le multiplexage en longueur d'onde, souvent appelé WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing en anglais), est une technique utilisée en communication optique qui permet d'augmenter le débit sur une fibre optique en faisant circuler plusieurs signaux de longueurs d'onde différentes sur une seule fibre, en les mélangeant à l'entrée à l'aide d'un multiplexeur (Mux) et en les séparant à la sortie au moyen d'un démultiplexeur (deMux). Il s'agit pour simplifier de faire passer plusieurs « couleurs » simultanément dans une fibre – ou le plus souvent une paire de fibres (émission / réception).

Single-mode optical fiber

In fiber-optic communication, a single-mode optical fiber (SMF), also known as fundamental- or mono-mode, is an optical fiber designed to carry only a single mode of light - the transverse mode. Modes are the possible solutions of the Helmholtz equation for waves, which is obtained by combining Maxwell's equations and the boundary conditions. These modes define the way the wave travels through space, i.e. how the wave is distributed in space. Waves can have the same mode but have different frequencies.

Diode laser

Une diode laser est un composant opto-électronique à base de matériaux semi-conducteurs. Elle émet de la lumière monochromatique cohérente (une puissance optique) destinée, entre autres, à transporter un signal contenant des informations sur de longues distances (dans le cas d'un système de télécommunications) ou à apporter de l'énergie lumineuse pour le pompage de certains lasers (lasers à fibre, laser DPSS) et amplificateurs optiques (OFA, Optical Fiber Amplifier).
