Filling the Entire Terahertz Frequency Gap by Single-Cycle MV/Cm Pulses

Résumé

We demonstrate highly efficient Terahertz production and absolute phase control in the hardly accessible THz frequency gap (1-15 THz) by optical rectification in organic crystals leading to single-cycle field oscillations beyond 150MV/m and 0.5 Tesla.

Spectroscopie térahertz dans le domaine temporel

En physique, la spectroscopie TéraHertz dans le domaine temporel ( THz-TDS ) est une technique spectroscopique dans laquelle les propriétés de la matière sont sondées avec de courtes impulsions de rayonnement térahertz. Le schéma de génération et de détection est sensible à l'effet de l'échantillon sur l'amplitude et la phase du rayonnement térahertz. En mesurant dans le domaine temporel, la technique peut fournir plus d'informations que la spectroscopie à transformée de Fourier conventionnelle, qui n'est sensible qu'à l'amplitude.

Tunable metamaterial

A tunable metamaterial is a metamaterial with a variable response to an incident electromagnetic wave. This includes remotely controlling how an incident electromagnetic wave (EM wave) interacts with a metamaterial. This translates into the capability to determine whether the EM wave is transmitted, reflected, or absorbed. In general, the lattice structure of the tunable metamaterial is adjustable in real time, making it possible to reconfigure a metamaterial device during operation.
