Résumé

We here review the taxonomic standing of several generic names in the African Cetoniinae and re-establish Coelorrhina Burmeister, 1842 (= Cyprolais Thomson 1880 syn. nov.) as the first available name for Cetonia quadrimaculata Fabricius, 1781.

Taxonomie

vignette|350px|La classification classique du vivant classe les êtres vivants selon une hiérarchie de groupes de plus en plus vastes. La taxonomie ou taxinomie est une branche des sciences naturelles qui a pour objet l'étude de la diversité du monde vivant. Cette activité consiste à décrire et circonscrire en termes d'espèces les organismes vivants et à les organiser en catégories hiérarchisées appelées taxons. Elle doit proposer des outils et des méthodes permettant de les identifier (notamment grâce aux clés de détermination).

Bacterial taxonomy

Bacterial taxonomy is subfield of taxonomy devoted to the classification of bacteria specimens into taxonomic ranks. In the scientific classification established by Carl Linnaeus, each species is assigned to a genus resulting in a two-part name. This name denotes the two lowest levels in a hierarchy of ranks, increasingly larger groupings of species based on common traits. Of these ranks, domains are the most general level of categorization. Presently, scientists classify all life into just three domains, Eukaryotes, Bacteria and Archaea.

Genre (biologie)

En systématique, le genre est un rang taxinomique (ou taxonomique) qui regroupe un ensemble d'espèces ayant en commun plusieurs caractères similaires. Le genre est le sixième rang principal de la systématique classique des espèces vivantes. C'est une notion abstraite qui était présente dans le vocabulaire courant bien avant que ce concept moderne soit introduit par le botaniste Tournefort et adopté dans la terminologie scientifique des naturalistes.
