Heptacoordinate Co-II Complex: A New Architecture for Photochemical Hydrogen Production

Résumé

The first heptacoordinate cobalt catalyst for light-driven hydrogen production in water has been synthesized and characterized. Photochemical experiments using Ru(bpy)(3) as photosensitizer gave a turnover number (TON) of 16300molH(2)(molcat.)(-1) achieved in 2hours of irradiation with visible (475nm) light. This promising result provides a path forward in the development of new structures to improve the efficiency of the catalysis.

Économie hydrogène

Photochimie

La photochimie est une branche de la chimie concernée par les effets chimiques de la lumière (au sens large, de l'infrarouge aux ultraviolets), qui peut intervenir : comme étape d'une réaction chimique, auquel cas elle est absorbée ; comme étape catalytique, auquel cas elle est réémise et peut à nouveau réagir ; Enfin, il existe des processus chimiques qui, comme dans les lasers, donnent deux photons identiques par absorption d'un photon + réaction chimique.
