Live Demonstration: Quasi-Digital Portable Pen to Monitor Anaesthetics Delivery

Résumé

The live demonstration presents the innovative concept of a portable pen-device able to sense anaesthetic compounds over time for improved anaesthesiology practice. A custom Printed Circuit Board (PCB) manage in the event-based quasi-digital domain the sampling procedure, while a commercial Screen Printed Electrode (SPE) acts as an electrochemical sensor for measuring paracetamol (APAP) as benchmark drug. The system is controlled by an FPGA board implementing a custom logic and the results are displayed through a Matlab ® graphical user interface. The visitors can experience and confirm on real-time the reliability of the here presented portable pen for anaesthetic monitoring.

Anaesthetic machine

An anaesthetic machine (British English) or anesthesia machine (American English) is a medical device used to generate and mix a fresh gas flow of medical gases and inhalational anaesthetic agents for the purpose of inducing and maintaining anaesthesia. The machine is commonly used together with a mechanical ventilator, breathing system, suction equipment, and patient monitoring devices; strictly speaking, the term "anaesthetic machine" refers only to the component which generates the gas flow, but modern machines usually integrate all these devices into one combined freestanding unit, which is colloquially referred to as the "anaesthetic machine" for the sake of simplicity.

Agent anesthésique volatil

Les agents anesthésiques volatils, aussi appelés en raison de la présence dans leur molécule d'un élément halogène, en général du fluor, sont des substances utilisées pour provoquer une anesthésie générale. Liquides dans les conditions atmosphériques, ils s'évaporent très facilement ce qui permet de les administrer par voie respiratoire. Le premier représentant de fut l'éther, dont l'utilisation a cessé entre autres à cause de son inflammabilité. Anesthésiques halogénés : desflurane ; enflurane ; haloflurane ; isoflurane ; sévoflurane.

Anesthésie

L'anesthésie peut viser un membre, une région ou l'organisme entier (anesthésie générale). L'anesthésie loco-régionale est aussi pratiquée dans les cas de douleurs chroniques. Le mot « anesthésie » provient du grec , « sensation, faculté de percevoir par les sens », avec le préfixe , « in-, sans ».
