An analytical formula for the back emf of a slotted BLDC motor

Résumé

The paper presents a completely analytical formula to determine the phase back emf of a slotted BLDC motor with interior or exterior rotor and parallel or radial permanent magnet (PM) magnetization and concentrated winding. The formula is based on integration of an analytical solution for the PM magnetic field in the motor air gap. Six combination of the number of slots and number of poles (Ns/Np) are considered: 6/4, 9/6, 6/8, 12/10, 9/12 and 12/14. The results are verified using a finite elements software. © 2007 IEEE.

Electric motor

An electric motor is an electrical machine that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy. Most electric motors operate through the interaction between the motor's magnetic field and electric current in a wire winding to generate force in the form of torque applied on the motor's shaft. An electric generator is mechanically identical to an electric motor, but operates with a reversed flow of power, converting mechanical energy into electrical energy.

Brushed DC electric motor

A brushed DC electric motor is an internally commutated electric motor designed to be run from a direct current power source and utilizing an electric brush for contact. Brushed motors were the first commercially important application of electric power to driving mechanical energy, and DC distribution systems were used for more than 100 years to operate motors in commercial and industrial buildings. Brushed DC motors can be varied in speed by changing the operating voltage or the strength of the magnetic field.

Un moteur sans balais, ou « moteur brushless », ou machine synchrone auto-pilotée à aimants permanents, est une machine électrique de la catégorie des machines synchrones, dont le rotor est constitué d'un ou de plusieurs aimants permanents et pourvu d'origine d'un capteur de position rotorique : capteur à effet Hall, synchro-résolver, codeur rotatif (par exemple codeur incrémental), ou tout autre système permettant l'auto-pilotage de la machine. Vu de l'extérieur, il fonctionne en courant continu.
