On the Differential Input Impedance of an Electro-Explosive Device

Résumé

In this paper, a model for the input impedance of a hot-wire electro-explosive device (EED) based on differential-mode measurements is proposed. The model represents the EED using three transmission line segments in cascade. The characteristics of each segment are estimated according to data reported in the literature and to measurements of the differential-mode input impedance of actual EEDs in the ultrahigh frequency range. The experimental procedure and model are presented in detail. In addition, the impedance measurements and the predictions of the proposed model are compared with previous results reported in the literature.

Differential amplifier

A differential amplifier is a type of electronic amplifier that amplifies the difference between two input voltages but suppresses any voltage common to the two inputs. It is an analog circuit with two inputs and and one output , in which the output is ideally proportional to the difference between the two voltages: where is the gain of the amplifier. Single amplifiers are usually implemented by either adding the appropriate feedback resistors to a standard op-amp, or with a dedicated integrated circuit containing internal feedback resistors.

Impédance caractéristique

L'impédance caractéristique d'une ligne de transmission est une représentation d'une forme de perméabilité du milieu. Elle joue un rôle similaire à ce qu'on observe avec les ondes sonores ou les ondes électromagnétiques. Quand une onde traverse la frontière entre deux milieux différents, une partie de son énergie ne peut être transmise d'un milieu à l'autre et repart dans l'autre sens. Dans une ligne de transmission, elle correspond à l'impédance qu'on pourrait mesurer à ses bornes si elle avait une longueur infinie.

Signalisation différentielle

La signalisation différentielle, ou transmission différentielle, est une méthode de transmission de signal électrique dans laquelle l'information est la différence entre les signaux transmis sur deux lignes. La transmission différentielle s'utilise aussi bien avec un signal analogique, comme en téléphonie, qu'avec un signal logique, comme en informatique. Elle permet de diminuer la sensibilité aux interférences. Au lieu de transmettre le signal comme tension par rapport à la masse, on utilise deux conducteurs, l'un convoyant le signal, et l'autre son inverse.
