ShapePipe: A new shape measurement pipeline and weak-lensing application to UNIONS/CFIS data

Résumé

Context. The Ultraviolet Near-Infrared Optical Northern Survey (UNIONS) is an ongoing collaboration that will provide the largest deep photometric survey of the northern sky in four optical bands to date. As part of this collaboration, the Canada-France Imaging Survey (CFIS) is observing r-band data with an average seeing of 0.65 arcsec, which is complete to magnitude 24.5 and thus ideal for weak-lensing studies.

Lentille gravitationnelle faible

Une lentille gravitationnelle faible (weak gravitational lensing en anglais) est une lentille gravitationnelle dont les effets sont limités par rapport aux lentilles gravitationnelles fortes. Plus fréquentes que ces dernières, les lentilles gravitationnelles faibles sont beaucoup plus difficiles à observer. Comme tout type de lentille gravitationnelle, les lentilles gravitationnelles faibles peuvent être produites par divers corps célestes plus ou moins massifs. Selon le ou les corps impliqués, les effets de lentille varieront.

Constante cosmologique

La constante cosmologique est un paramètre ajouté par Einstein en février 1917 à ses équations de la relativité générale (1915), dans le but de rendre sa théorie compatible avec l'idée qu'il avait alors d'un Univers statique. La constante cosmologique est notée . Elle a la dimension d'une courbure de l'espace, . Depuis la fin des années 1990, les développements de la cosmologie ont montré que l'expansion de l'Univers, interprétée en termes de masse et d'énergie, pouvait être attribuée à 68 % à une « énergie sombre » dont l'effet est celui de la constante cosmologique.

Galaxie naine

Une galaxie naine est une petite galaxie composée de 100 millions à quelques milliards d'étoiles, un nombre relativement faible par rapport aux 200 à 400 milliards d'étoiles estimés de la Voie lactée. Ces galaxies gravitent souvent autour de galaxies plus importantes comme la Voie lactée, la galaxie d'Andromède ou la galaxie du Triangle. La Voie lactée possède plus d'une trentaine de galaxies naines connues qui gravitent autour d'elle. La plus grande d'entre elles est le Grand Nuage de Magellan, d'un diamètre d'environ 15000 années-lumière.
