Résumé

Growing evidence suggests that arginase misregulation plays a key role in the pathophysiology of essential hypertension. In the present study, we investigated the potential cardiovascular therapeutic effects of a long-term treatment with an arginase inhibitor in adult spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) with fully developed hypertension.

Essential hypertension

Essential hypertension (also called primary hypertension, or idiopathic hypertension) is the form of hypertension that by definition has no identifiable secondary cause. It is the most common type affecting 85% of those with high blood pressure. The remaining 15% is accounted for by various causes of secondary hypertension. Primary hypertension tends to be familial and is likely to be the consequence of an interaction between environmental and genetic factors.

L’hypertension artérielle (HTA) persistante est une pathologie cardiovasculaire définie par une pression artérielle trop élevée. Souvent multifactorielle, l'HTA peut être aiguë ou chronique, avec ou sans signes de gravité. On parle communément d'hypertension artérielle pour une pression artérielle systolique supérieure à et une pression artérielle diastolique supérieure à .
