Résumé

In a recent issue of Molecular Cell, Bonetti et al. (2009) identify in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae that the molecular activities that generate 3' overhangs at telomeric DNA ends are the same as those that resect DNA at double-strand breaks.

Réparation de l'ADN

La réparation de l'ADN est un ensemble de processus par lesquels une cellule identifie et corrige les dommages aux molécules d'ADN qui codent son génome. Dans les cellules, l'acide désoxyribonucléique (ADN) est soumis continuellement à des activités métaboliques normales et à des facteurs environnementaux portant atteinte à son intégrité. Ces facteurs environnementaux sont le plus souvent de nature chimique comme les radicaux libres de l'oxygène et les agents alkylants, ou physique, comme les radiations ultraviolettes et les rayonnements ionisants.

Nucleic acid double helix

In molecular biology, the term double helix refers to the structure formed by double-stranded molecules of nucleic acids such as DNA. The double helical structure of a nucleic acid complex arises as a consequence of its secondary structure, and is a fundamental component in determining its tertiary structure. The term entered popular culture with the publication in 1968 of The Double Helix: A Personal Account of the Discovery of the Structure of DNA by James Watson.
