Résumé

Alterations of wall shear stress can predispose the endothelium to the development of atherosclerotic plaques. Ample evidence indicates that arginase expression and/or activity correlates with several risk factors for cardiovascular disease including atherosclerosis. We investigated the regulation of arginase pathway in response to distinct patterns of wall shear stress.

Athérosclérose

L'athérosclérose (du grec athêra signifiant « bouillie » et scleros signifiant « dur ») est une maladie touchant les artères de gros et moyen calibre et caractérisée par l'apparition de plaques d'athérome. L'athérome correspond à un remaniement réversible de l'intima des artères de gros et moyen calibre (aorte et ses branches, artères coronaires, , artères des membres inférieurs) par accumulation segmentaire de lipides, glucides complexes, sang et produits sanguins, tissus adipeux, dépôts calcaires et autres minéraux.

Athérome

An atheroma, or atheromatous plaque, is an abnormal accumulation of material in the inner layer of an arterial wall. The material consists of mostly macrophage cells, or debris, containing lipids, calcium and a variable amount of fibrous connective tissue. The accumulated material forms a swelling in the artery wall, which may intrude into the lumen of the artery, narrowing it and restricting blood flow. Atheroma is the pathological basis for the disease entity atherosclerosis, a subtype of arteriosclerosis.

Maladie cardiovasculaire

Une maladie cardiovasculaire, ou maladie cardioneurovasculaire, est une maladie qui concerne le cœur et la circulation sanguine. Dans les pays occidentaux, son expression la plus courante est la maladie coronarienne, responsable de l'angine de poitrine ou encore des infarctus. Les maladies cardiovasculaires touchent plus certaines catégories de population (ouvriers, personnes exposées à certaines pollutions, personnes obèses) et leur prévalence régionale est marquée comme en France, à la fin du dans le Nord-Pas-de-Calais, l'Alsace, l'Auvergne et récemment l’île de France , quatre régions nettement plus touchées que les autres régions et la moyenne nationale, comme pour plusieurs types de cancers.
