Protéine précurseur de l'amyloïde

La protéine précurseur de l'amyloïde (APP en anglais pour amyloid precursor protein) est une glycoprotéine transmembranaire de type I appartenant à la famille APP qui rassemble chez les mammifères, y compris l'homme, trois orthologues aux fonctions partiellement redondantes : APP, APLP 1 et 2 (Amyloid Precursor-Like Protein). Exprimée dans l'ensemble du corps humain, c'est dans le cortex cérébral que l'on retrouve la plus forte expression d'APP.

Bêta-amyloïde

Le peptide amyloïde bêta ou β-amyloïde est un peptide (une petite protéine) appartenant à la famille des substances amyloïdes. Dans certaines circonstances, il est néfaste pour le système nerveux central (sous l’influence de différents facteurs génétiques et environnementaux encore mal compris). L'amyloïde bêta est au centre de l'hypothèse amyloïde qui est la théorie, formulée initialement par JA Hardy et GA Higgins en 1992, selon laquelle la maladie d'Alzheimer est causée par la présence de plaques amyloïdes dans le cerveau.

Anticorps

Un anticorps est un complexe protéique produit par le système immunitaire adaptatif dans un organisme vivant pour détecter et neutraliser les agents pathogènes de manière spécifique. Ce faisant, les anticorps se lient à l'agent pathogène et dirigent vers lui, dans le but de le détruire, les cellules immunitaires dites phagocytes (macrophages, polynucléaires neutrophiles) et/ou les agents du complément. L'organisme devient alors réfractaire à l’agent envahisseur : il s’immunise.
